Hank's first day of chemo...from Suzann

Hello all. Here is a quick update from Suzann

Hank had his first day today. It started at 6am for checking in for port placement. That went well. he arrived at his room for the next 5 days, 1305K. Beautiful new rooms at OHSU Phil Knight cancer center. Large and an amazing view. Keeps the spirits up despite the cold, rain and chemo! He had a hard time coming out of anesthisia. Received his first chemo at 9pm tonite. It was very emotional for me but Hank was cracking "irony" jokes. He took it well. Thanks again for keeping the blog momentum. You are a great friend to him. Hi to Lisa and the girls. Love suzann

  1. Hank,
I have attempted to send you a message a couple different times now, but I'm not sure I'm posting correctly. I've sent an email to Mike DeNeffe asking for his input.
Thank Suzann for letting us know how your first day went. I still have my port......I've been afraid to have it removed thinking it might bring me bad luck. If my next scans (should be in mid-May) are clean, I will then have it removed.
I'm sure you are already counting off the days and wanting to get out of there. I remember sometimes thinking I couldn't take one more treatment....... but did. I developed mind games to get through some of the toughest ones. I kept envisioning the cancer shriveling and dying until I thought I could actually feel it happening. Just keep thinking that the work you are doing now is the most important job you've ever had.
    Be strong.
